“Two Weeks to Prove Ourselves” — The Story Behind Frederick High

They almost kicked us off the job before we even got started.

When we showed up to Frederick High School, the superintendent didn’t want to give us a shot. He didn’t know us, didn’t trust that we could handle the work. To him, we were just another small outfit from up north, probably here to slow the job down or make it messy.

But I wasn’t leaving. I told him straight up—“Just give me two weeks. Let me show you what my family can do.”

I explained that my dad, Elias Perez Sr., and my brother, Eli Jr., weren’t just drillers—they were the drillers. Born with calluses on their hands and dirt in their veins. I said, “You give us a shot, you’ll see how we work.”

And sure enough, just like I told him… they drilled so fast and so clean that within two weeks, the superintendent had a whole new attitude.

We put the contractor six months ahead of schedule. That ain’t no exaggeration.

The surveyor literally couldn’t keep up. He was out there scrambling every morning, trying to get those pier marks in before we ran out of holes to drill. There were days they even sent us home early—not because we weren’t working hard, but because we were drilling too fast.

What made it special wasn’t just the production—it was that my whole family came together for it. My young nephews, Jacob and Isaac, they were just boys then, but they were there, boots on the ground, learning how to be men. Watching, helping, hauling gear, soaking it all in. That job didn’t just move a school forward—it helped build our legacy.

We earned our respect that day the old-school way—with sweat, precision, and family backing each other up.

From that point on, we weren’t just Perez Drilling—we were the crew they called first.
